Built in 1850, the historic homestead was established by Adam Ivy using the value of a single piece of gold dust earned from a local gold mine. After almost 40 years raising his family in the home, Adam Ivy sold the house to Dr. James D. Nisbet.
It was then that Dr. Nisbet retired from New York City, renovated the house, and built multiple barns for the estate to operate as a working dairy farm until the late 1950s. After he and his wife died, the house sat vacant for eight years.

THE GRAHAM FAMILY
The Ivy Place has been a labor of love for owners Terry and Genie Graham. Born and raised on the family dairy farm in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Terry always knew he would farm. He graduated from the University of Reading with a degree in Agriculture in 1976. Genie, a Charlotte native, is happiest in her flower garden. A master gardener, she has studied plants and growing practices and installs gardens to bring the look and feel of The Ivy Place to your home. The Graham’s grandchildren and extended family all look forward to gathering at The Ivy Place.
In 2020 and 2021, the couple’s children joined the family business. Stuart, business manager, was the first to join after a successful banking career. Nancy, a licensed landscape architect, will be developing the gardens at The Ivy Place as well as residental and commercial garden design.
